Busabout has launched a cool new initiative to mark World Water Day

World Water Day (that's today in case you were wondering) is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the role water plays not only in our daily lives, but also those of the communities which we visit on our travels.

World Water Day (that’s today in case you were wondering) is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the role water plays not only in our daily lives, but also those of the communities which we visit on our travels.

That’s why youth operator Busabout has unveiled a new initiative with Just a Drop to help ensure communities in the places it visits have access to safe drinking water.

The new partnership will see Busabout sell new refillable aluminium water bottles to passengers on its Cambodia Adventure trip.

And it’s not just about water.

The bottles have been provided by Refill not Landfill. The Cambodian company is working to reduce use of plastics by tourists and tourism companies in Cambodia by providing refillable bottles and refilling stations across the country at over 83 locations. It has also just started to expand into Vietnam and Thailand.

“The world is currently facing a huge plastic problem, which is highly prominent in Asia,” a Busabout spokesperson said.

“In Cambodia it is estimated that around 4.6million plastic bottles go to waste every month.”

All proceeds from sales of the bottles will go towards Just a Drop’s work helping residents of three Cambodian villages access safe drinking water.

The Treadright-endorsed organisation currently supports three villages in Cambodia, providing them with sustainable safe water, sanitation and hygiene products.

The company hopes this initiative will give its passengers the opportunity to help address the local community’s water needs and reduce their plastic usage at the same time. They’ll also get a cool souvenir too!

The water bottles are sold as part of Busabout’s Angkor Wat sunrise excursion with each passengers opting in for the experience to receive one.
