Foto Hotel Phuket - a hotel designed for people who love photography

It’s not necessarily the new kid in town but the Foto Hotel Phuket might be very new to the Australian traveller. With brand new motivated General Manager Ms. Golfie now at the helm, the Australian market is one she is keen to attract.

Honestly I never thought I would travel to Phuket Thailand.

I am a huge fan of Bangkok and I’ve loved my two trips to Khao Lak, and when people talk about Phuket I imagined drunk Aussies and strip clubs.

What I didn’t know is Phuket is a huge beautiful island with an experience to suit every traveller and the Foto Hotel is one of those great experiences

This hotel is designed and created for people who love photography.

The hotel is even painted in an 18% grey colour which is apparently ideal for taking photos!

The Foto Hotel is a design hotel on an island were most hotels are, well, very Thai.

It is located on the cliffs of Phuket on Kata Hill and from the hotel it’s a 10 minute downhill walk to beautiful Kata Beach and township.

The infamous area of Patong is about 30 minutes north of Kata and the Big Buddha, a must visit, is about 30 minutes east.

There are so many instagramable moments throughout this hotel, from the graffiti style murals at the hotel entrance to the chequered teddy bears strewn throughout the property but the highlight of this accommodation is the rooftop infinity pool with huge ocean views.

The pool area flows directly from the hotel restaurant named Tiffin Mama.

A Tiffin is an enamel or stainless steel stacked lunch box, commonly used by Thai people but now is becoming trendy in the Western world.

The restaurant has all day dining including the all important happy hour which actually runs for two hours from 5- 7pm (would highly rate the fresh mango daiquiri).

When looking at the guest rooms there are just two room types, ocean view and garden view.

The rooms continue with the black, white and grey theme with the styling including photography quotes on the walls, antique cameras on display and black and white framed photos of old Phuket.

The big bed, marble bathroom and a great switch panel for the lights, fan and air conditioning all add to the comfort of the room.

Buffet breakfast is included in your rate (I’d recommend the passionfruit and pineapple jam) as too is a free mini bar located in the hotel reception (does not include alcohol) and WiFi.

You wouldn’t stay here for the day spa or if you had mobility issues (a lot of stairs) but its a fun, quality hotel in a part of Phuket you’ll want to get to know – and don’t forget your selfie stick.
