Macao is a total feast for the senses. Visually, temples and churches compete for your attention, whilst the cacophony of street music and hawkers confirm that you are indeed in a bustling metropolis.

Macao is a total feast for the senses. Visually, temples and churches compete for your attention, whilst the cacophony of street music and hawkers confirm that you are indeed in a bustling metropolis.

But it’s your sense of taste that’s in for a real treat in this multicultural destination only a stone’s throw away from Australia’s shores.

With a culinary scene tantalising enough to make even the pickiest of foodies salivate with desire, plus the fact that there’s a delicious spread of food to suit every taste and budget, Macao is an exciting destination for your food-loving clients.

Here’s where they can satisfy their bellies in Macao…

ASIAN STREET FOOD

If the sweet smell of Asian street food tickles your taste buds, make a beeline to Cotai, the home of hawker-style street food.

Touted as the first hawker-style street market in Macao, Broadway should be your first port of call, a place where rubbing shoulders with the locals and taking breaks to people-watch and enjoy the street-side entertainment can easily while away an afternoon.

PORTUGUESE

The Portuguese may have left Macao decades ago, but their influence lives on in Macao’s culinary offerings, and in particular on Coloane Island, one of the two main islands of the Macau.

Restaurante Espaco Lisboa serves authentic Portuguese fair in decently sized portions and great service to match. The restaurant also stocks an excellent selection of Portuguese wine, so make sure you ask the waiter for some assistance in picking the right drop to go along with your meal.

Just around the corner you’ll find a Macao institution: Lord Stow’s Bakery. Famous for their egg tarts, no doubt you’ll be a fan after your first bite!

Enviously positioned by the sea, Miramar is another excellent restaurant specialising in delicious Portuguese food. Make sure you bag a table on the terrace for the best table-side views.

Set amongst traditional shophouses and quaint cobbled streets in Taipa Village, Antonio’s guarantees an unforgettable Portuguese dining experience in the oldest and best preserved area of Macao. Don’t leave without trying their cheese!

MACANESE

The culmination of Chinese and Portuguese ingredients and cooking styles, Macanese cuisine is unique and oh so delicious.

Café Litoral, located in Taipa, offers diners a menu of Macanese favourites such as African Chicken. You’ll literally be able to taste the cultural heritage of this multi-cultural nation.

Sample authentic Macanese flavours at Gosto, part of the Galaxy Resort located on the Cotai Strip. Just like Cafe Litorial, it’s the restaurant’s signature dish of Macanese Style Roasted African Chicken that will leave the biggest smile on your face.

CHINESE

Jade Dragon inside the stunning City of Dreams resort and casino in Cotai is a two-Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant run by Masterchef Tam Kwok Fung. Setting the benchmark for find dining in Macao, this spectacularly designed restaurant is hard to beat.

Another excellent choice is the award-winning Dynasty 8 at the Sands Cotai Central casino and resort. With eight private dining rooms, each decorated to portray different historical dynasties, the food – and service – is absolute top notch. Highly recommended.

INTERNATIONAL

For delicious Thai cuisine, Saffron (also located at Galaxy Resort) is your best bet. Must try: the Grilled Pork Tenderloin and Tong Yum Goong Mae Nam.
