Travel industry GMs help to save the Great Barrier Reef

Many of you would know that KARRYON's General Manager Anthony Valeriano, is losing his locks for World’s Greatest Shave. But here is a little known fact for you: his hair may be used to save the Great Barrier Reef.

Many of you would know that KARRYON’s General Manager Anthony Valeriano, is losing his locks for World’s Greatest Shave. But here is a little known fact for you: his hair may be used to save the Great Barrier Reef.

No, we’re not kidding.

So you’ve heard of the ponytails snipped off during the World’s Greatest Shave being turned into wigs for those with cancer, right?

Well shorter hair clippings (yes that includes Anthony’s man bun), will be transformed into compost and even floating booms to absorb oil spills at sea.

Great1

It’s a genuine possibility that Anthony’s hair could end up floating on the Great Barrier Reef blocking an oil spill.

“When I found out that my hair could help save the Barrier Reef, I was ecstatic. The Barrier Reef is one of the most important ecosystems on this planet and plays such a role ranging from food sources to research, protection and tourism”.

KARRYON General Manager Anthony Valeriano,

The green initiative is part of the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave partnering up with Sustainable Salons Australia; a resource recovery service that collects up to 95% of waste from hair salons.

Anthony, along with Scoot’s General Manager Jared Simcox will have their heads shaved in the name of blood cancer research here at KARRYON HQ at 5pm on Wednesday 14 March 2018.

The World’s Greatest Shave is a mighty important initiative to get behind.

Blood cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death in Australia, claiming more lives than breast cancer or melanoma.

And every day another 35 people will be diagnosed with this terrible disease.

All the money raised will go towards giving families facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need.

It will also fund vital research that will help more people survive blood cancers like lymphoma, leukaemia and myeloma, while improving their quality of life.

Head HERE to support Anthony and Jared in their big shave.
