4 reasons to book clients on LAN's new 787 to Sydney

The Dream continues for Australian travellers, as LAN officially starts 787 services on flights between Sydney and Santiago via Auckland.

The Dream continues for Australian travellers, as LAN officially starts 787 services on flights between Sydney and Santiago via Auckland.

The first next generation aircraft took off from Chile to Australia last week, making LAN the first airline to operate the aircraft on the route.

Using the aircraft on all seven weekly LAN flights between the two destinations, LAN passengers will have access to the 787-8 until the second half of this year when it will be replaced with the newer 787-9 model.

According to Patricio Aylwin, LATAM Managing Director Asia Pacific, the Dreamliner allows the airline to give customers flying to South America access to new technology and increased comfort.

He said the 787-9 model will also increase volume on the route, with the 787-9 providing 27 percent more capacity.

“The flight is a milestone for our company and for the global aviation industry, as LAN spearheads the future of long-haul flights. The benefits include more direct routes between distant cities, time savings for our passengers and the reduction of CO2 emissions.”

Currently, Qantas and LAN are the only airlines flying between Sydney and Santiago – although LAN goes via Auckland.

Later this year, Air New Zealand will jump on the South America travel buzz, with first direct services between New Zealand and Argentina.

To help you decide which service best suites your clients, see below four reason why your clients might enjoy flying LAN’s 787:

1. A whole lot of business class

LAN Business Class

LAN’s 787-8 carries a total of 247 passengers, with a two-class layout featuring 30 business class seats, in a 2-2-2 configuration, and 217 economy seats in a 3-3-3 configuration.

In the premium business class cabin, passengers have access to spacious seats with six-way adjustments, including reclining and full-flat positions for optimum rest, as well as more room for personal belongings at ground level.

2. Cleaner flying

The 787 releases an emission of up to 20 percent less CO2 than similar aircraft. It leaves up to 40 percent less noise footprint than similar aircraft on takeoff, the period of greatest noise in flight.

And 50 percent of the structure is made of carbon fibre composite material, which makes it a first in the industry. This material is more resistant to fatigue and corrosion. Less non-recyclable waste is also produced in the manufacturing process.

3. Less noise & humidification tech

As mentioned above, the engines of the Boeing 787 make significantly less noise than other aircraft, meaning passengers will have a more peaceful takeoff experience.

Cabins onboard have been fitted with new air humidification techniques, which not only reduce fatigue but dryness, which will leave clients feeling fresh after a long haul flight.

4. More to see and more to fit

The newer model leverages the visionary design of the 787-8, offering passenger-pleasing features such as large windows, large stow bins (30 percent more storage space for carry-on luggage), modern LED lighting, higher humidity, a lower cabin altitude, cleaner air and a smoother ride.
