In what is perhaps one of the most ironic headlines ever, authorities in Tulsa, Oklahoma have accidentally discovered AUD$574k worth of cocaine stuffed in an American Airlines aircraft’s nose gear.

The 31 pounds (14kgs) of cocaine was accidentally sniffed out after it arrived on a flight to Miami from Bogota, Colombia.

The Boeing 757 was routinely scheduled for maintenance after landing, but given the Miami base was too busy was instead sent off to Tulsa International Airport, where American Airlines also has a maintenance base.

It was there that an airline technician working on the nose gear noticed a suspicious brick-like object and immediately called the police.

After closer inspection of the dubious contraband, authorities discovered seven bricks of cocaine, worth at least AUD$18,500 a pound.

Whilst KarryOn guesses this kind of smuggling happens often on airlines, the party it seems is definitely over for this flight.
