Air New Zealand just topped Qantas & Virgin Australia

Air New Zealand isn’t an even Aussie airline and yet it has topped our carriers and a few other local businesses to be named ‘Australia’s most reputable company’.

The carrier moved from sixth place last year to take out the top spot in AMR’s 2017 Corporate Reputation Index, ahead of Mazda Australia (2nd), JB Hi-Fi (3rd) and Toyota (4th).

This is the first time Air New Zealand has claimed the number one position in Australia, while it was the second year in a row the company has taken out the top position in New Zealand.

According to AMR’s Managing Director Oliver Freedman it’s rare for an overseas company to take the top spot on the list.

“While former winner Toyota is an overseas company it has been based in Australia and had manufacturing here,” he explained.

“But this is a national airline of another country. It’s not even a company that is seen as a global company – it’s a true Kiwi company.”

Australia’s own Qantas and Virgin Australia slipped down the list this year, with the Flying Kangaroo dropping from 1st place last year to 4th, while Virgin Australia went from 11th to 16th.

Air New Zealand’s Chief Executive, Christopher Luxon, said it’s clear “Australians love” the carrier’s products and the team is “thrilled to be held in such high regard”.

“The results are testament to all the hard work of Air New Zealand staff who over the past decade have helped build an enviable reputation for the airline globally by delivering our uniquely Kiwi award-winning experience.”

“Despite being a relatively small airline in global terms, Air New Zealand continues to punch above its weight by taking great ideas and turning these into world leading product and service offerings that enhance the customer experience.”

With Business Class fares to South America going for less than the cost of a pregnant llama in Australia, it’s no wonder Air New Zealand is quickly becoming a favourite among Aussies.
