Korean carrier, Asiana Airlines is increasing its presence in Australia from tomorrow by resuming daily services between Sydney and Seoul.

The announcement comes after the airline wound back its services to five-times weekly to accommodate a slow-down in demand.

However, an spike in visitors heading to Korea has created new demand for the airline to fill. According to Korea’s tourism bureau, between January and April this year there has been a nine percent increase in Australian visitors compared to the same period period last year.

Commencing 6 September, the airline will utilise a variety of aircraft on the route, including the Boeing 777, Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 777-200, ABT reported.

Demand for the Korean carrier from Australia is expected to continue climbing, according to Wendy Wu Tours’ Lachlan Burnet who told KarryOn in May that the tour operator is seeing an annual increase in the number of Australians booking tours to Korea.

He explained that the company is increasingly being used by Aussies as a new stopover on the way to Europe.

“Korea is growing compared to say eight years ago and we’re seeing a lot of our clients choose it as a stopover destination to Europe.”
