China Southern is allegedly ready to expand its Australian network with direct flights between Guangzhou and Adelaide from December this year.

The carrier, which already operates from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, is reportedly looking at a three-times weekly non-stop service to tap into the growing South Australian market.

The news was pretty much confirmed when South Australian Premier, Jay Weatherill, told media the China Southern service would be the city’s first non-stop link to mainland China.

“Having a direct flight from mainland China will create jobs that extend well beyond Adelaide airport,” The International Business Times reported hm as saying.

The Premier continued, saying it was likely that the agreement would be signed in the “coming days”.

The aviation industry in Adelaide has received a big push over the last 12 months with new international airlines flying into the city’s gateway.

Earlier this year, the airport received its first direct services to Qatar through Qatar Airways’ daily services, and welcomed an increase in Cathay Pacific flights to Hong Kong.

Locally, Jetstar connected Adelaide to the Sunshine Coast with new direct flights, while in cruising, Golden Princess will make history when she becomes the first cruise ship to depart from the city.
