Etihad's Residence headed to New York

Etihad's push in the US market continues, with the announcement it will send its private three-room suite - The Residence - to New York.

Etihad’s push in the US market continues, with the announcement it will send its private three-room suite – The Residence – to New York.

Commencing 1 December 2015, the airline will operate its new Airbus A380 featuring the world’s first flying commercial suite on services between Abu Dhabi and JFK Airport.

NYC will be the third destination to receive the The Residence by Etihad. Currently A380 services are available on flights to London’s Heathrow Airport. The jumbo jet will fly to Sydney from June this year.

Guests in the Residence have bedrooms and their own lounge room.

The announcement follows recent US approval for Etihad guests flying to the US to receive customs preclearance before leaving Abu Dhabi. The airline also recently adjusted its UAE and US departures to offer sync up with connections to flights to and from the Indian Subcontinent.

Etihad boss James Hogan said the US is a strategic market for the airline and its growing global network.

“As a result of increased demand from our guests traveling between New York and Abu Dhabi – and onto the world, we are pleased to upgrade one of our two daily flights to an A380.”

The A380 service EY103 will depart daily from Abu Dhabi at 2.55am to arrive in JFK at 8.40am. It will then return, leaving NYC at 3.00pm and arriving in Abu Dhabi at 12.30pm.

The Boeing 777-300ER flight EY101 will continue to operate on the 10.20am service from Abu Dhabi and return from NYC at 9.55pm

Etihad’s first A380 entered service on 27 December last year to London. It was the first of five jumbo jets for the airline – the other four will be delivered this year.

Sydney will be the second gateway to receive the A380 with The Residence when it flies to the city on 1 June 2015.
