Females take full flight at Fiji Link

Fiji Airways’ regional subsidiary, Fiji Link, has that ‘girl power’ the Spice Girls preached about in the 90s.

Less than three months after being appointed the first female captain for Fiji Airways’ subsidiary, Fiji Link, Captain Hartlene Yuen will take the lead of the carrier’s first all-female ATR flight deck.

Joined by First Officer Sonam Pratap, the two ladies will take full control of the aircraft as they fly guests around on Fijian routes.

Fiji Airways congratulated the pair on Facebook, saying ‘the sky really is the limit’ for the two pilots.

Back in June, when Yuen was named the carrier’s first female captain, she told media that being a pilot ‘is not only a man’s career’.

Yuen said she had wanted to be a Captain since she was a little girl when she would go on holidays with her family in the Western Division.

Now at 29, the inspirational lady has made her dreams a reality by not only taking off as a Captain, but a Captain of an all-female flight deck.

She said her career is rewarding and exciting and there’s no reason for other female to try and take on the challenge of flying, Fiji Village reported.
