Eighteen months, dozens of paint cans and a few tech adjustments later, Air Canada has re-opened the doors to a completely revamped Vancouver lounge offering guests the ultimate pre-flight experience.

Some 258 guests can now enjoy two levels of relaxation thanks to the designers over at Vancouver-based Gustavson Wylie Architects Inc. who melded contemporary Canadian style and artwork to deliver an elegant, peaceful space.

One of the first things travellers will admire about the new renovated lounge is the place of creative pieces produced by Canadian artists along with furnishings by Canadian designers.

Guests will also appreciate the custom-crafted work table in the business zone made of wood salvaged from a maple tree in the Cowichan Valley.

Other highlights of the space are the new hot and cold dining options, including a feature salad by celebrated Vancouver Chef David Hawksworth; flat screen desktop computers, RICOH colour printing and scanning, and complementary wi-fi; as well as spa-inspired shower rooms with rain shower heads, a Samsung TV zone, a VIP room and a quiet zone with reclining lounge seating.

The Vancouver lounge is one of 22 Maple Leaf Lounges worldwide, including 16 lounges at Canadian airports.

The airline’s Aussie frequent flyers will be able to access the space when returning home on one of the airline’s three Australian routes, including the recently announced year round 787 services from Melbourne.
