There’s a new group reppin’ that Girl Power and this time they’re doing it at 32,000-feet in the air.

They’re Air India’s all-female crew who set a new world record this month by operating the first entirely female flight around the world.

Now, when we say all-female we’re not just talking ladies in the cabin and in the cockpit (which is impressive in itself), we mean women managing check-in, operations AND air traffic controls.

Wrap that thumb, ring finger and baby finger around your palm, stock that index finger and middle finger in the air and simultaneously shout “Girl Power”!

Taking off from New Delhi in India, the Boeing 777-200LR flew over the Pacific Ocean to San Francisco and then return via the Atlantic.

The Air India flight was organised ahead of Wednesday’s International Women’s Day and has been submitted to the Guinness World Record, India Times reported.

It’s a great feat not only for the women involved in the flight but also for the airline and India, which have both recently been scrutinised for their take on gender inequality.

Air India made headlines last month when it announced it would reserve special seats for female flyers on select domestic services after receiving a number of sexual harassment complaints from female guests. The decision wasn’t taken too well by some members of the public who believed it would only serve to deepen gender division.

The Indian government was also under the spotlight last year for ‘sexist’ comments made by the country’s tourism minister.
