Jetstar enhances its layby offer ahead of Christmas

Ho, ho, ho! Here's a happy ho-liday present from Jetstar – the carrier has extended its layby system so that travellers can book their last minute Christmas escape now and pay later.

Ho, ho, ho! Here’s a happy ho-liday present from Jetstar – the carrier has extended its layby system so that travellers can book their last minute Christmas escape now and pay later.

A few months back (one month, just one month back), the low-cost carrier announced a first-of-its-kind partnership with Afterpay, which allows travellers to… you guessed it, book flights now and fork the money over on another day.

The layby offer was introduced to tempt potential guests into securing their flights whether they were financially ready or not.

As part of the initial rollout, Jetstar.com users could only take advantage of the system if they were spending between $200-$1,000 on domestic flights and booking at least eight weeks in advance.

Now a new and improved edition allows budget flyers to book flights only four weeks away from takeoff and pay them off in regular payments over the month, News.com.au reported.

This means, travellers can take advantage of the system now (or next month) and have their holiday flights paid off in time for Christmas.

According to Jetstar’s spokesperson, the upgrade was made after experiencing strong demand for the system, which received “thousands of bookings” in its first month.

“With Christmas only weeks ahead, we decided to expand this option for more travellers by making Afterpay available for bookings four weeks in advance of travel.”

The spokesperson continued, saying that the next phase for Afterpay will be to make it available on international flights so that travellers can book now and pay later on any of the airline’s overseas services such as the forthcoming Melbourne-Zhengzhou flights.

“We’ve heard from many customers wanting to include Afterpay on international flights and that’s a possibility we’re exploring for the near future and will announce opportunely,” the spokesperson said.
