2017 has been very generous to us travelling Aussies with incredible airfare deals ranging from $495 flights to Sri Lanka, two-for-one domestic sales and lets not forget those $995 flights to Europe.

Oh no, they can and they have thanks to the Macao Government Tourism Office and Xiamen Airlines‘ new arrangement.

The two brands have teamed up to for a new campaign called ‘One Fare, Two Cities’, in which they plan to entice more Aussies to visit Macao via China’s City on the Sea, Xiamen.

Launched this week, the promotion will start by targeting consumer and trade through digital, print and radio advertising. These ads will focus on the special $768 airfare, but more to that later…

The campaign will then extend directly to consumers when the Macao Government Tourism Office visits four Sydney-based shopping centres – Parramatta (6-9 July), Castle Towers (20-23 July), Chatswood Chase (3-6 August) and Eastgardens (17-20 August) – with its new 360-degree virtual reality headsets showcasing the Portuguese-influenced destination.

Shopping centre visits will coincide with trade workshops, during which consultants will have the opportunity to learn about Macao’s beaches and colonial past, Xiamen’s natural landscapes and outdoor activities, as well as Xiamen Airlines’ inflight service.

But of course, tying these three forms of promotion together will be the epic $768 per person return fares to Macao via Xiamen.

For less than a GoPro Drone, Australians can experience the City of Dreams and the City on the Sea PLUS they’ll receive a complimentary hotel night in Xiamen OR a free coach tour.

The $768 offer is the starting price for flights from Sydney and Melbourne, and the complimentary hotel night is available to travellers transiting in Xiamen for six-24 hours, while the free coach tour will be available to those stopping over for four-24 hours.

Speaking to media in Sydney yesterday, Macao Government Tourism Office’s General Manager of Australia & New Zealand, Helen Wong, said the promotion aims to attract more Aussie visitors while also opening them up to an alternative route.

“This is a very exciting venture between airline and destination, which should build on our numbers.”

Alex Ding, Sales Manager at Xiamen Airlines’ Sydney Office said the low fare offer also gives Aussies the chance to experience top inflight service from the ‘Best Airline in China’, which operates from Australia 10 times weekly.

“Australians can explore the beauty of two cities.”

Last year, Macao’s arrival numbers reached an all-time high of 31 million people. Australians made up around 93,300 of that figure, a one percent increase on the prior year.

According to Helen Wong, Aussies have an average overnight stay in Macao of 2.5 days, making it the second largest long haul market for the destination.
