Qantas' boss earns more than Apple's CEO in 2017

There was definitely no skimming on Christmas presents in the Joyce household these past holidays, with the Qantas boss taking out an incredibly large pay cheque for his hard work over 2017.

There was definitely no skimming on Christmas presents in the Joyce household these past holidays, with the Qantas boss taking out an incredibly large pay cheque for his hard work over 2017.

According to ASX100 CEOs, Qantas’ boss and a Companion of the Order of Australia, Alan Joyce almost doubled his pay last year to $25 million from $12.9 million in 2016.

$25 million!

Can’t. Even. Imagine.

No seriously, can’t imagine because I’m a woman and the highest earning female Chief Executive in Australia received around $5.3 million (Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz from Mirvac) and because I like having a life outside of the office ????.

The huge pay cheque made Joyce the highest earning male Chief Executive in Australia, taking home $5 million more than his counterpart at Macquarie, and placed him well ahead of a number of international bosses, including Apple’s Tim Cook who earned $US12.8 million ($16.4 million).

Equally as impressive as Alan Joyce’s earnings is the amount of work he put in over 2017 to earn it, such as working with Boeing to develop an aircraft capable of flying Aussies direct to Europe, ensuring planes operated across the Tasman when fuel was low, negotiating new alliances with Emirates and American Airlines and so much more.

He was also generous enough to donate $1 million of his money to the ‘YES’ equal rights campaign, which paid off when same-sex marriage was legalised in Australia.

Well done Alan Joyce, own your riches, and if you need help spending it…
