Qantas' new campaign to take more Aussies across the ditch

Qantas has teamed up with Tourism New Zealand for a new 'immersive' campaign to get more Aussies across the Tasman during autumn.

Qantas has teamed up with Tourism New Zealand for a new ‘immersive’ campaign to get more Aussies across the Tasman during autumn.

The two tourism groups will publish major ads across digital, social media and through Qantas’ inflight channels that promote key New Zealand regions.

Running until 14 September, travellers passing through the ‘Qantas Travellator’ at Qantas Sydney Domestic Airport will be exposed to an installation of 10 New Zealand images, while a soundtrack of native New Zealand bush sounds play in the background.

For those that haven’t had the chance to see it, the ‘Qantas Travellator’ is located in the Qantas T3 terminal and an interactive build shaped as the Qantas Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Customers use the travellator to enter the shape where the New Zealand experiences and sounds will come to life.

In the windows of the ‘aircraft’ travellers will see unique images of New Zealand landscapes and attractions such as Waiheke Island, Hobbiton™ Movie Set, Cathedral Cove, Wellington, Kerosene Creek, Rotorua, Marlborough, Queenstown, Nelson, Abel Tasman National Park and Fox Glacier.

Tourism New Zealand’s General Manager said the campaign presents New Zealand to Australians in a ‘unique and immersive way’.

“With the recent increase of Qantas flight capacity into New Zealand, this campaign represents a strong opportunity to drive bookings and arrivals over the autumn period.”

Tony Saunder, Tourism New Zealand General Manager

“New Zealand is its most picturesque in autumn and travellers don’t need to compete with the crowds of the summer or winter high season.”

Meanwhile, the Qantas Group’s Executive Brand, Marketing & Corporate Affairs Olivia Wirth added that customers passing through the ‘Qantas Travellator’ will get a three-dimensional experience that will likely inspire trans-Tasman travel.

“The enveloping content makes you feel as if you are truly there, which we expect will translate into more people choosing to book a Qantas flight to New Zealand for their next holiday,” she said.
