Qantas rewards Frequent Flyers for booking Ubers to the airport

While London fights the emergence and growth of ride-sharing services, Australia's travel industry has embraced it through special pick-up zones for drivers at airports and special partnership deals.

While London fights the emergence and growth of ride-sharing services, Australia’s travel industry has embraced it through special pick-up zones for drivers at airports and special partnership deals.

Among the Aussie companies accepting the taxi alternative is Qantas, which has entered a new arrangement with Uber that will benefit the carrier’s Frequent Flyers.

Commencing 3 November, Frequent Flyers will earn points when they book an Uber trip to-and-from 15 eligible airports in Australia (Adelaide, Avalon, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Cairns, Canberra, Gold Coast, Hobart, Maroochydore, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney, Toowoomba and Townsville).

The number of points they receive will depend on their status, with Bronze members receiving 1 Qantas Point per dollar spent on airport Uber rides, Silver members will receive 2 points and Gold, Platinum and Platinum One members will receive 3 points.

To receive the points, Frequent Flyers will need to request the Uber via the Qantas app by searching for the ‘Uber’ icon under the booking section (it won’t appear until 3 November, so don’t go searching yet).

Additionally, members who sign up for Uber for the first time and book a ride via the Qantas app will earn 2,000 bonus Qantas Point on their first trip.

What?! 2,000 points! How do I delete my existing Uber profile!

According to Qantas’ Chief Customer Officer, Olivia Wirth, the partnership is in line with current travel trends, which indicate Uber is a popular way to travel to-and-from the airport.

“Today’s announcement means millions of our Frequent Flyer members will be able to book their flight, their ride to the airport and their hotel on the Qantas app, and earn points from all three of them.”
