Qantas & Virgin’s new furry arrangements

Qantas and Virgin Australia are all about that animal life right now and it could have something to do with last week’s National Dog Day.

Qantas and Virgin Australia are all about that animal life right now and it could have something to do with last week’s National Dog Day.

Whatever the reason, we’re totally wagging our tales over these new arrangements that make both carriers a little more animal friendly.

Let’s start with Qantas (because Q comes before V).

The Flying Kangaroo launched a new donation program last month that sees the airline donate blankets, duvets and mattress covers from its domestic and international flights to RSPCA shelters around Australia.

It comes after years of donating blankets to people in need and has so far already seen the airline give away 10,000 used blankets to animals in need of a little warmth.

Qantas’ Head of Customer Product and Service Development, Phil Capps, said the airline is proud to extend its donation program to help animals.

“We are flying more people than we have ever before, which means we have more blankets to give, so it’s great they get a second opportunity for use by our four legged friends.”

Meanwhile, Virgin Australia Cargo has launched a new partnership with pet travel experts, Jetpets, to unite rescue pets with new, loving homes around Australia.

The first flight took place earlier this month when Pet Rescue united Lallee the Rough Collie with her new Sydney owners.

Virgin Australia Cargo Chief Executive, Merren McArthur, said more Aussies are making the decision to adopt a rescue pet and the airline is delighted to help bring them together.

“This is a treasured partnership for all of us at Virgin Australia Cargo.”

“Everyone in our team is passionate about pet welfare and helping to make a positive difference – not just for our furry, four legged friends, but for the new owners that receive them.”
