Qatar Airways books Kylie Minogue for big Sydney launch

Middle Eastern carriers are loving our female entertainers, with Qatar Airways being the latest to team up with a local celebrity.

Middle Eastern carriers are loving our female entertainers, with Qatar Airways being the latest to team up with a local celebrity.

The carrier confirmed it has booked our pop princess, Kylie Minogue, to perform at its big Sydney-Doha launch.

A Qatar spokesperson confirmed the rumour to KarryOn this morning, saying Minogue will be the guest of honour at the Gala Celebration evening held on 3 March – the same day the airline’s first commercial flight from Doha touches down in the Harbour City.

The glamorous evening event will take place in Darling Harbour with the carrier’s CEO, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker in attendance along with media and other industry friends.

So far, Minogue is the only star confirmed to provide entertainment on the night but KarryOn is predicting a big name will also host the event. We’ll just have to wait and see.

According to NT News, this won’t be the first time Minogue performs for the Qatar Airlines. She was once Qatar’s surprise guest at the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) 70th anniversary.

Her ongoing relationship with the carrier has KarryOn thinking she may be the next Australian to be the face of an airline.

It wouldn’t be the first time a Middle Eastern airline recruited an Australian celebrity to be the face of its marketing campaign. Last year, Etihad revealed Nicole Kidman as the celebrity to promote its ‘Residence’ – a flying suite. Meanwhile, Tourism New Zealand last week announced Megan Gale would promote biking tours around New Zealand and Tourism Australia picked up Thor aka Chris Hemsworth to sell Australian tourism.

Meanwhile, when Qatar launches flights to Sydney next month, they will operate daily on the airline’s Boeing 777.

Flight QR908 will depart Doha at 8.20pm and arrive in Sydney the following day at 6.05. The aircraft will then depart Sydney as Flight QR909 at 10.20pm and arrive in Doha the next day at 5.05am.

The non-stop flight will bring the carrier’s weekly services from Australia to Doha up to 14 and will create around 3,000 local jobs and contribute over $240 million to the local economy.

Do you think Kylie Minogue will help spread the news of Qatar’s Sydney launch?
