Southeast Asia’s notoriously naughty airline has set a course for Australia with plans to launch an unexpected route, connecting Brisbane to Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City.

Vietjet, the low-cost carrier famous for its controversial marketing campaigns, revealed intentions to fly Down Under this week, with its first route to Queensland.

The airline signed an agreement with the state’s government this month for a non-stop service to Brisbane that’s expected to take off in 2019, Air Transport World reported.

As there’s almost a full year before flights take off, information on the Ho Chi Minh-Brisbane service is scarce, however, it’s likely that either the carrier’s Airbus A320 or A321 will operate on the route.

Once the new route is up in the air, Vietjet will be the only international low-cost carrier flying direct from Queensland to Vietnam.

In other Sunshine State news, Virgin Australia also announced a new route from Brisbane this week with plans to launch direct services to Alice Springs in July this year.
