Singapore Airlines brings the Premium to Economy

Singapore Airlines has stepped up its onboard comfort, with redesigned seats and in-flight offerings in its forthcoming Premium Economy Class.

The carrier is giving travellers a sneak peek of what to expect in the new class, which is being rolled out from August this year.

The biggest difference from regular Economy Class will be the Premium Economy seats.

Displayed for the first time in Singapore yesterday, each seat has a width of either 18.5 or 19.5 inches, depending on aircraft type, with an eight-inch recline and a seat pitch of 38 inches.

Currently, Economy Class seats in Singapore Airlines’ A380, A330 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are around 18.5 inches (47cm) wide and have a seat pitch of 32 inches.

In addition to new seating, Premium Economy Class will also be fitted with a new ‘contemporary and stylish’ design.

Every passenger in the new class will have active noise-cancelling headphones and a 13.3-inch full HD monitor – the largest in its class and three inches bigger than Economy Class in the A380.

Seats will have full leather finishing, calf-rest and foot-bar.

For the tech focused travellers, there’s individual in-seat power supply, two USB ports, personal in-seat reading light, cocktail table, and more stowage space for personal items.

The foodies, will enjoy an extensive range of food and beverage offerings, including the mash potato, beef and vegetable plate below.

Premium Economy guests will also have access to ‘Book the Cook’ service, enabling advance ordering of a selection of main courses.

Other features of the new class include priority check-in and baggage handling and baggage allowance of 35kg

Premium Economy Class will be progressively introduced on 19 Airbus A380s, 19 Boeing 777-300ERs and the first 20 Airbus A350s.

It will enter commercial service on 9 August 2015 to Sydney, before being introduced to other destinations such as Beijing, Delhi, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, London, Mumbai, New York, Shanghai, Tokyo and Zurich.
