Cairns continues to open up to travellers, as Singapore Airlines’ regional carrier becomes the latest airline to fly to and from the destination.

It will be SilkAir’s second Australian city, after Darwin.

Operations commenced late last month, with three times weekly flights between Cairns and Singapore.

Flights operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays, through a triangular route with Darwin.

Saturday flights will depart Singapore for Cairns non-stop and then return to Singapore via Darwin.

The Monday and Thursday flights will fly to Cairns via Darwin and then return to Singapore non-stop.

The airline, which recently redesigned its cabin uniforms, will operate the Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the route, to offer guests access is Business and Economy class cabins.

According to SilkAir Chief Executive Leslie Thng the new route provides travellers an additional option when flying from Australia to Singapore.

Meanwhile, late last month Regional Express (REX) also unveiled a new route in Cairns, with direct flights to Townsville.

Commencing 6 July this year, the airline will introduce three weekly return flights between Cairns and Townsville.

These flights will be in addition to weekend services already operating between the two cities and the newly introduced direct four times weekly return services between Cairns and Mount Isa.
