A swanky cocktail reception teed off last night at The Star in Sydney to celebrate the launch of the Emirates Australian Open Golf 2015.

Overlooking stunning Sydney Harbour at the Sky Terrace at The Star in Sydney, the launch event was attended by sporting stars, media professionals and other industry heavy weights, all decked out in their finest evening wear.

The Emirates Australian Open Golf 2015, now in its 100th year, will welcome the world’s best golfers to Sydney’s shores at The Australian Golf Club from 26 to 29 November.

It’s just one of the many sporting events held in Australia this year that travel agents can capitalise on to sell more travel.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events for NSW, Stuart Ayres, is particularly pleased that Australia’s premier golfing tournament will be returning to NSW this weekend:

“It’s fantastic to say that we’ve got the Australian Open at its home at the Australian Golf Club here in NSW… It’s a wonderful tournament that continues to go from strength to strength and it showcases just how strong and important golf is in Australia.”

Ayres also thanked sponsors Emirates for their continual support of the golf tournament:

“The Australian Open is one of the premier fixtures of the Australian sporting calendar, and it’s absolutely fantastic to be joined by a number of the partners, not least the fantastic work and the long-term committment and support that Emirates and Barry Brown has continually shown time and time again.”

Emirates is certainly no stranger to lending its support to Australian sport, with the Dubai-based airline sponsoring the Melbourne Cup earlier this month. But it’s the Australian Open Golf that Emirates holds dear to its heart.

Barry Brown, Divisional Vice President for Australasia, Emirates, spoke highly of the Australian Open at last night’s event:

“It’s the tournament that makes Australian and international players take note, and we’re particularly pleased to play our part in the Open and we’re celebrating our fifth year as title sponsor.”

He added:

“It’s recognised as Australia’s preeminent golf championship, in association with Emirates, and it’s an association that we deeply treasure.”
