The verdict is in on the best airlines in Australia

Australian flyers have spoken, and Qantas has come out on top ahead of Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Tigerair for overall airline satisfaction, according to a recent CHOICE consumer survey.

Over 1,500 Aussies aged between 18–75 years took part in the airline satisfaction survey.

According to the results, 38 per cent of passengers had a problem during their flight, with most of the problems occurring on domestic services. Virgin Australia were the worst offenders for delays and cancellations, whilst Tigerair performed poorly when it came to refunding passengers. Qantas and Jetstar were found to be the worst for over booking flights.

When it came to delays, 25 per cent reported wait times of between two and five hours. Qantas, followed by Virgin, Jetstar and Tigerair were the best when it came to managing flight delays.

But when it comes to good old value for money, Tigerair were rated the highest.

Interestingly, 43 per cent of Aussie travellers reported that they were willing to pay a bit extra (between $2 and $10 per ticket) for some compensation in the event of a flight delay.

And perhaps unsurprisingly, the survey found that the laid-back Aussie attitude of “fair-go” meant that most Australian travellers refused to complain when faced with a problem, with 52 per cent saying that complaining wouldn’t actually change anything anyway.
