Virgin amps up central Australia travel with new flights

Virgin Australia steps up its central Australia offerings, with new direct flights between Alice Springs and Adelaide PLUS a new lounge.

Virgin Australia steps up its central Australia offerings, with new direct flights between Alice Springs and Adelaide PLUS a new lounge.

From March 2015, the airline is taking Adelaideans straight to central Australia via a three times weekly service – the first full service carrier to operate directly between the two destinations in almost ten years. It will bring competition to the Adelaide – Alice Springs route in the full service market for the first time in almost ten years.

“The Adelaide to Alice Springs route has effectively been a monopoly for nearly a decade and Virgin Australia is delighted to bring choice and competition to these cities.
“Today’s announcement is another step forward in our strategy to become Australia’s favourite airline group as we continue to redefine domestic air travel in Australia for both business and leisure travellers.

Virgin will utilise its 176-seater Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which includes complimentary wireless in-flight entertainment.

Tickets for the service go on sale for the direct flights early next year.

Meanwhile, business class customers and frequent flyers using the service will also be able to enjoy the line’s Adelaide Lounge, as well as the soon-to-be-launched Alice Springs Regional Lounge.
