Watch out HK & Singapore, Sydney Airport is chasing 'world class' status

Sydney Airport has reached a new agreement with the representative body for international airlines to improve the welcoming and departing experience for overseas visitors.

Sydney Airport has reached a new agreement with the representative body for international airlines to improve the welcoming and departing experience for overseas visitors.

The agreement was signed today with the Board of Airline Representatives Australia (BARA), which represent the large majority of airlines operating out of the airport.

Commencing 1 July 2015, the five-year agreement will see Sydney Airport work closely with BARA’s members to deliver a ‘world class passenger experience’.

This will be achieved through improvements to terminal presentation, the implementation of latest technology and much-needed additional capacity to meet new demand.

Sydney Airport will also improve facilities and invest in more efficient operations.

“This negotiation also demonstrates the benefits of commercial airport agreements that prioritise passengers, airline operating requirements and efficiencies, airport capacity and a service quality culture.”

The agreement will also see Sydney Airport decrease international per passenger charge by $0.18 to $24.00. This charge will be in place until 30 June 2016.

However, charges will increase per annum by 3.8 percent over the subsequent four years of the agreement.

Earlier this month, Sydney Airport also unveiled a new Australian Way retailer plan for its T1 upgrade.

The retail experience at the gateway will be completely reimagined, with seven uniquely Australian stores.

Airport’s managers said this is part of its plans to offer a distinctly Australian experience to travellers.
