Australian pet owners just can’t seem to be able to leave their pets at home, despite new tech that allows them to monitor and even Skype their furry friends from the road.

A new Pet Parent Survey released by PETstock’s found Australian pet parents are heavily influenced by their dogs and cats and will alter plans for a more animal-friendly destination.

Around 75 percent of dog owners will choose a travel destination based on whether their dog can join them andaround 16 percent refuse to travel unless they can take their dog along.

Cat owners are equally as attached, with 20 percent having considered choosing travel destinations based on whether their cat could come and seven percent refusing to travel unless they could take their cat.

Some 41 percent of dog owners confessed they travel less now that they own a dog, compared to 31 percent of cat owners.

And 26 percent of cat owners believe putting their cat in a cattery is a holiday for their cat as much as it is for them compared to 20 percent of dog owners.

PETstock Chief Executive, Shane Young, said it’s clear Aussies love to travel with their pets and believe a holiday wouldn’t be complete without their friend.

“More and more pet owners are looking to destinations that provide animal-friendly accommodation so their fur babies aren’t left out of all the fun!”
