Agents who haven’t already may want to start researching Southeast Asian getaway, Myanmar, because according to new research it’s the top destination for Australian travellers in 2015.

The exotic destination is one of Asia’s fastest growing tourism spots, and last year saw its tourist arrivals double from one million in 2012 to two million.

Last year, Australians were the country’s top visitors from Oceania, with over 24,718 arrivals – a 275 percent increase on the prior year.

The country’s diverse tour options, makes it popular amongst all-type of travelelrs from backpackers to the luxury river cruiser.

River cruising in the Myanmar alone jumped from 14,635 in 2012 to 15,809 last year.

According to Skyscanner’s 2015 predictions based on recent flight searches made on the website, Myanmar’s popularity will continue to boom in coming year, making it the top destination for Australian travellers.

Myanmar was closely followed by Greece’s Mykonos, which made the cut after a renewed rush in popularity this last year.

Iceland’s role as the gorgeous backdrop in a number of Game of Thrones episodes will attract a number of Australian fans, with flight searches to the destination increasing by 32 percent.

Meanwhile, three South American and Central American destinations made the list, with more Aussies looking to visit Brazil, Panama and Nicaragua.
