FOOTSTEPS OF THE PHARAOHS: Getaway to journey through Egypt and Jordan

Getaway will put the ancient wonders and mysteries of Egypt and Jordan in the spotlight over the next three weeks as Catriona Rowntree travels from bustling Cairo, down the Nile and on to Jordan.

The special episodes will screen on the Nine Network on Saturday 28 April, 5 May and 12 May.

The episodes will follow Catriona on Scenic’s 20 Day Essence of Egypt and Jordan itinerary which starts at Cairo’s number one attraction, the Great Pyramids of Giza.

Arriving in historic Luxor, Catriona checks into the luxurious Sofitel Winter Palace, just steps from the temple, mummification museum, and open markets of this rich and diverse city.

After taking in the astounding Valley of the Kings and Karnak temple, she boards Scenic’s Cruise partner, the Sanctuary Sun Boat III to begin the Nile cruise.

The following episode sees Catriona gliding down the Nile, en route to some of Egypt’s most prized temples.

Mysteries and surprises await at Dendera, one of the best preserved of Egypt’s temples, with its magnificent temple of Hathor. Then it’s on to Edfu, the awesome temple of Horus, and the landmark ancient temple of Kom Ombo.

Back aboard the Sun Boat III, Catriona travels to Philae, the temple complex of the ancient god Isis, and then on to Aswan, where she experiences the charms of the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel.

Catriona’s final stop in Egypt is beautiful Aswan, located on a stretch of the Nile with a number of friendly Nubian villages.

In the final episode, she arrives in Jordan and discovers the ancient ruins of Jerash, just north of Amman.

To wrap things up, Catriona treks across the otherworldly desert landscape of Wadi Rum, sees the amazing treasury at Petra, goes swimming in the Red Sea, and enjoys the incredible experience of floating in the Dead Sea.
