A Star cruise ship is coming to Australia

Australia is practically getting a whole new cruise ship fleet this coming wave season, as Star Cruises becomes the latest cruise line to send a new ship to our shores.

SuperStar Virgo will join Legend of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Golden Princess, Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden as the newest vessels to sail to and from Australian ports during the 2015/16 period.

This is the largest number of new ships to sail Down Under in one season.

It is also the first time Star Cruises is sending the vessel to Australia in over a decade.

Unlike the ships above, the 2,800-passenger vessel will not homeport from Australia, but rather visit during a 48-day voyage throughout Southeast Asia and Australia.

Scheduled to depart on 13 November 2015 from Hong Kong, SuperStar Virgo will take advantage of summer in the southern waters before returning on 31 December 2015.

For those looking for a shorter trip on the vessel, the voyage will be broken up into various shorter segments to allow passengers to get on and off at various ports.

Segments include trips from Hong Kong to Singapore; Singapore to Fremantle; Fremantle to Sydney via Adelaide, Melbourne and Tasmania; or Sydney to Hong Kong.

In addition to local Australian destinations, passengers on the full itinerary will stop by Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Star Cruises’ VP of Sales said the company wants to reacquaint Australians with the line, particularly its flagship.

“We are thrilled to have Australia play such an important role in this inaugural itinerary with more than half the schedule showcasing some of her best cities.”

SuperStar Virgo first sailed in Australia in 2003 after she was relocated from Singapore due to the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

Originally, she was only meant to sail out of Perth for one month, however, this was extended so that she cruised from Western Australia from April until July.

Onboard she features over 13 restaurants and bars including Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Indian, local and international cuisines.

In 2009, the ship underwent a major renovation to receive a 100-metre mega-waterslide.

In addition to the ride, her rooms were updated to offer a selection of premium suites with balconies and oceanviews as well as budget friendly inside cabins.
