Parts of her have been stripped, redesigned and reimagined and now Azamara Journey is being prepped for her big Australian debut later this year.

The 690-passenger vessel is scheduled to arrive in six months time and will be the second Azamara ship to sail around the country following the line’s maiden visit last wave season with the arrival of Azamara Quest.

Azamara Club Cruises’ President and CEO, Larry Pimentel, said in Sydney earlier this week that “the time is absolutely right to bring” Journey to Australia to tap into demand from the line’s third largest source market.

“Wherever in the world we sail, the Australian effect is unmistakable.”

He said the cruise line was “incredible impressed” by the response it received with Quest’s debut earlier last season and expects a similar response to the “refreshed and renewed” Journey.

“The time is absolutely right to bring sister ship Azamara Journey down under for the very first time,” Pimentel said.

When she arrives in Darwin on 8 February 2017, the ship will feature new venues, technologies as well as redesigned suites, staterooms and public spaces.

Her US$25 million refurbishment also included the addition of all modern services and amenities that travellers have come to expect on land, such as pervasive wi-fi.

New staterooms and suites feature an elegant redesign, which is both sophisticated and welcoming, making each room a sanctuary for guests for the duration of their cruise.

New Spa Suites, located adjacent to the refreshed Sanctum Spa, offer exclusive spa amenities and a bathroom that is like a mini spa with glass wall showers offering spectacular views.

As well as completely reimagined public spaces and staterooms, additional new features onboard include The Patio, an al fresco poolside dining area; The Living Room, a casual bar, dining and entertainment room with beautiful views; and new pervasive Wi-Fi with faster speeds to even accommodate streaming.

Azamara Journey’s maiden Australian season will see the small ship call to Australian ports 21 times; injecting more than $2.85 million into the local economy in passenger spend alone.

Each of her Australian voyages will see guests treated to a complimentary, bespoke AzAmazing Evening event arranged by the cruise line, unmasking more of the destination.
