P&O Cruises' Pacific Dawn is getting a ridiculous makeover

It looks like Brisbane may end up being home to one of Australia’s coolest P&O Cruises ships… well, at least until Pacific Explorer arrives in June next year.

Pacific Dawn, which homeports in the city, will undergo a ridiculous makeover early 2017 to become one of Australia’s funnest year-round vessels with a new state-of-the-art water park featuring TWO waterslides.

That’ll also make Dawn Brisbane’s first year-round cruise ship with a water park.

Designed for both adults and youngeons, the water park will feature an interactive kids-only play area as well as the two ‘exhilarating ‘ rides, which will have their own unique sliding experience.

The multi-million dollar refit, scheduled to take place in February, will also see the 2,000-guest ship emerge with a dining experience, as The Pantry replaces the dated buffet. A cafeteria-type space, it allows guests to choose their meals for a variety of fresh food outlets such as the new Mediterranean-inspired offering called ‘Nic and Toni’s’.

Public spaces will be redesigned to mirror the contemporary look in the rest of the P&O fleet, while The Dome nightclub will be completely revamped with a ‘sophisticated’ design and will offer more live music.

Other changes onboard include the transformation of the Promenade Bar into an outdoor venue for cocktails and live music.

According to P&O Cruises’ President Sture Myrmell, the refurbishment will help kick off what will be a big year for the cruise line, with an expected growth in cruisers plus the arrival of a new ship.
