This is what cruisers get up to on an Azamara ship

Azamara Quest became the first ever Azamara Club Cruises ship to sail into Australia last week, bringing with her some 680 travellers.

She arrived at full capacity, and according to a spokesperson, that’s pretty much how she’s sailing year-round.

Quest and her sister vessel, Azamara Journey, are so popular amongst cruisers that a spokesperson told KarryOn there aren’t enough beds for the cruise line to organise big group famils anymore (individual famils are still available).

But that didn’t stop us from getting a good look at the ship while she was parked at White Bay Cruise Terminal to see exactly what cruisers get up to when they’re sailing on a boutique vessel.

Here’s what we found:

According to Igede, the Indonesian bartender who has lived on Quest for over five years, the Looking Glass bar is a regular spot for cruisers in the evenings.

Igede tells us guests love a little Pina Colada on their cruise.

Aside from enjoying the line’s Wine of the Day – a red or white wine selected by the cruise line everyday that guests can receive for free – guests tend to steer towards cocktails while sailing with the line.

The ship has a selection of 32 cocktails in total and the most popular is… a Pina Colada.

When they’re not sipping on the rum-based drink, guests can be spotted dining at one of the six restaurants or cafes.

Prime C serves premium steaks.

There’s the specialty venue, Prime C, serving premium steaks; or the Pool Grill for some casual treat. Plus there’s the Windows Cafe – the main dining hall where every night the food is different.

“There’s a different food theme every night – so one night will be Indian, the other Spanish. We don’t repeat during cruises.”

But one of the more popular spots onboard is Aqualina – Italian specialty dining serving modern Italian dishes. It’s the place guests go for a devilish tiramisu mixed with berries and Bacardi or a delicious Sogliola Puttanesca – a sole fillet served with sun-dried tomato risotto and puttanesca sauce.

The restaurant is also famous for its Champagne and oyster bar as well as its caviar-tasting on every cruise.

In the spa, Simon from New Zealand, said acupuncture is particularly popular amongst Azamara guests as are those traditional massages.

The ladies love a good hair dry and manicure on every cruise, he added, and some even seek out a good workout to burn off their meals.

When they aren’t getting dolled up for a night on the cruise, passengers enjoy taking some time in The Drawing Room where they can borrow a book to read on their trip, while others stop by the Wi-Fi room to surf the net.

Australians are the third largest market for Azamara Club Cruises, despite only sending their first cruise ship to Australia this year. We follow on from the US and the UK.
