Uniworld adds Dame Joan Collins to its incredible dynasty of godmothers

Austria’s Princess Anita von Hohenberg has had the honour of breaking champagne on a Uniworld ship, as has French actress Catherine Deneuve and soon so too will one of the most recognisable women on this planet, Dame Joan Collins.

The award-winning actress, producer and best-selling author was this week named the Godmother of Uniworld’s forthcoming Super Ship, S.S. Joie de Vivre.

The new vessel will join the river cruise line’s fleet on 27 March when she’ll begin sailing on the Seine River and just like her Godmother, she’ll have many unique and recognisable features.

As a first-of-its-kind to sail on the Seine, S.S. Joie de Vivre has been built at 125 metres as opposed to the standard 135 metres, which will allow her to dock in the heart of Paris.

Additionally, the ship will feature two Royal Suites, eight Junior Suites and 54 staterooms fitted with made-to-order Savoir of England beds and marble-lined bathrooms.

PLUS, in true Uniworld style, S.S. Joie de Vivre has been decorated with rare French-inspired pieces such as handcrafted furniture, rich fabrics, antiques, art, and gilded and wrought-iron accents.

It’s these individual traits that make Dame Joan Collins the ideal Godmother of the Super Ship, according to the cruise line.

“We are delighted to welcome Dame Joan Collins to the Uniworld family as Godmother of the S.S. Joie de Vivre.”

Ellen Bettridge, Uniworld President & CEO

“She epitomises the ‘joy of living’ philosophy that is reflected in every bold detail and gentle touch of our newest Super Ship.”

As part of the time-honoured Godmother tradition, Dame Joan will lend her vivacious personality to the Super Ship and bestow good fortune over it and those who sail aboard at the christening ceremony in March.

Dame Joan said she’s honoured to have been named Godmother of the vessel, which will welcome guests from around the world “to fall in love with Paris just as I have”.

“I hold France and its ‘City of Light’ close to my heart, and now, thanks to Uniworld, my ties to the beautiful country are even closer.”
