Whether you’re a cruise fanatic or a one-off sailor, last year’s rumours that Richard Branson was starting his very own cruise line would have come as an exciting and welcome surprise.
I bet even a few of those cruise cynics dropped their ‘hater’ stance and considered boarding one of his Virgin Cruises.
The man himself confirmed the rumours were true earlier this year. But this month he spilled a little more info on what we can expect from the cruise line.
Of course he unveiled the information in Branson-style, dressed in red shorts and a captain’s hat.
Now, while we hold back our girlish giggles (hello, Branson in a Captain’s hat), here’s everything we know about Virgin’s move into cruising.
1. Virgin Cruises has an office in Miami
2. It is headed by Tom McAlpin who ran Disney Cruise Line for 13 years
3. The first Virgin Cruises ship will set sail in five years
4. It will be the first of three vessels
5. Ships will have 1,430 cabins
6. To accommodate 2,800 guests
7. They will be built by Fincantieri
8. The same shipyard that built P&O Britannia
9. And Royal Princess
10. First cruises will be out of Miami
11. Sailing to the Caribbean
12. Over seven days
13. And may include calls to Cuba
