Armenia - the next hot spot for tailored, luxury escapes

Did you know that tourism to Armenia reached an all-time high of 1.2 million visitors last year? It was a healthy increase for the destination’s tourism industry after experiencing a one percent drop during the prior year.

While the majority of arrivals came from Russia, Iran and the USA, tourism operators saw growing interest among Australian holidaymakers so-much-so that brands such as Abercrombie & Kent (A&K) have added the destination to their portfolio.

A&K has released a 13-day Armenia and Georgia small group journey featuring the heart of the Caucasus and satisfying travellers’ curiosity of old world Eastern European charm.

Taking in the former Soviet Republics of Georgia and Armenia, guests discover extraordinary landscapes where high alpine peaks tower over meadows and valleys, where fast flowing rivers traverse rich agricultural land and where magnificent Orthodox Christian churches are found in the most unexpected places.

Both countries boast a rich cultural heritage of music, art, poetry and dance as well as a surprising cuisine influenced by both European and Eastern traditions.

Wine and spirits are another unexpected element of travel in the region, with Georgia said to be the world’s oldest producer of wine and Armenian brandy one of the country’s major exports. On A&K’s journey, vineyard visits and private tastings are a feature.

Other highlights of the trip include the beautiful terraced homes of old Tbilisi, a wealth of extraordinary churches and monasteries, expert encounters with artisans and restorers, a range of authentic dining experiences as well as a private boat trip on Lake Sevan, the largest in the region.
