Citizens will receive visa free entry between 1 June and 18 September, with a limited stay of 90 days from the date of first entry into the country.

Visitors do not need to prove that they have tickets to attend any Olympic events, which means it’s open to all Aussies.

The decision was made to encourage more visitors to visit the destination during the popular sporting period.

Projections released by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) say they’re expecting between 300,000 and 500,000 people to inject around US$1.7 billion into the local economy.

Of those, around 53,000 will be Aussies holding a ticket to the Olympic games.

According to Embratur’s Executive Coordinator of Intelligence and Tourist Promotion, Bruno Reis, the number of Australian tourists increases considerably during major international events.

“In the year of the World Cup, when 67,000 Australians were in Brazil, there was an increase of 33 percent over the previous period,” he said.
