Homer Simpson gives Australia a lot of love, thanks us for Wolverine & Harley Quinn

Sydney’s most iconic attraction and Australia in general received a huge shout out from one of the world’s most famous animated fathers, Homer Simpson.

The beloved character left his family, donuts, brown sofa and Duff Beer back in Springfield for our Harbour City this week, to promote the upcoming visit of The Simpsons Creator, Matt Groening.

Homer used the one-minute clip to thank Australia for some of its many contributions to pop culture, which will be the topic of discussion during the ‘Matt Groening in conversation with Lynda Barry: Love, Hate & Comics’ at the GRAPHIC Festival in November this year.

In addition to highlighting our love of sports and connection to Russell Crowe, Homer thanked us (“on behalf of the United States of America”) for Wolverine and Harley Quinn.

The Power Plant employee also recognised our part in delivering movies such as Crocodile Dundee and was more than honest about his feelings about Rupert Murdoch.

“What a treat it is to visit a land where they almost speak English.”

“On behalf of the United States of America, thank you for Wolverine and Harley Quinn. You guys can have Rupert Murdoch back though, we’re done with him.”

He then goes on to announce Groening’s part in the GRAPHIC festival, which will include a rare, live in-conversation with his biggest inspiration, cartoonist, writer and Eisner Hall of Famer, Lynda Barry.

They will share rare insights into their world including The Simpsons, Futurama, Life In Hell, Ernie Pook’s Comeek and One! Hundred! Demons!, and talk about drawing together in college and looking back on the world of pop culture they have transformed.

‘Matt Groening in conversation with Lynda Barry: Love, Hate & Comics’ will be held on 5 November 2016 at 4.00pm in the Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House. Click here for tickets.
