Sydneysiders and visitors to the Harbour City will get a special treat next year, when Dame Julie Andrews launches a new production of 'My Fair Lady'.

Sydneysiders and visitors to the Harbour City will get a special treat next year, when Dame Julie Andrews launches a new production of ‘My Fair Lady’.

The stage and screen legend has agreed to direct the production, which will premier in Sydney next year.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events, Stuart Ayres, said getting someone as big as Andrews onboard to direct a local production reinforces the city’s position as a ‘live performance capital’.

Mr Ayres expects the production will bring more than 19,000 overnight visitors to Sydney and inject some $7 million into the NSW economy.

The premiere has been secured exclusively for Sydney by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.

Andrews said she is ‘thrilled’ to have been asked to direct the play at the Sydney Opera House.

“I look forward to coming to Sydney this November to cast the production and begin the process of bringing this great musical to life once again.”
