Melbourne Airport’s International Terminal 2 (T2) is undergoing an exciting re-development which is part of a broader project to turn the airport into the main gateway into Australia.

The T2 re-development will capture the character of Melbourne in a way that truly showcases the sophisticated essence of the city, continuing the Airport’s transformational journey, which started with the successful opening of the new T4 Domestic Terminal back in 2015.

“The transformation of T2 is an important step in Melbourne Airport’s vision to create an airport that Melburnians can be proud of, and will offer travellers a shopping and dining experience on par with leading airports around the world.”

Andrew Gardiner, Chief of Retail at Melbourne Airport.

The re-development is focused on enhancing the experience for Melburnians and visitors alike through creating a precinct that  mirrors the city’s world-renowned shopping, food and beverage and cultural experiences.

All in all, the retail space in the T2 will be expanded by about 30 percent, with the terminal’s duty-free section enlarged and the introduction of a new world-class luxury precinct.

The new duty-free retail space is expected to be completed in Q1 2017.

A range of new dining option will also be added to Melbourne Airport’s culinary menu, with quick eats, restaurants and bars that reflect the city’s affinity with food, including an expanded selection of dining options, making sure passengers are well fed and watered before their flights.

The redevelopment will also see the Airport’s continued relationship with some of the city’s most celebrated chefs, including Shannon Bennett, Frank Camorra and the Angele brothers.

With the aim of becoming the chosen international gateway into Australia, the project will deliver a customer-centric experience to better cater for the expected 13 million people who will travel through the Airport by 2024.

Construction of the highly anticipated T2 transformation project is already under way with a staged opening from early 2017.
