A theme park in the UK may have just stumbled across the ultimate renewable energy, which doesn’t rely on Mother Nature to replenish supplies but human fear.
Sounds a little morbid, but it’s actually pretty incredible and handy, especially if your mobile phone is sitting on one percent battery.
Thorpe Park in Surrey recently opened its newest attraction based on the hit post-apocalyptic zombie series, The Walking Dead, which uses energy from people’s screams to charge their phones.
Legit.
Here’s how it works:
People load into carts, which have been fitted with special devices capable of absorbing people’s terrified shrills, the vibrations and the g-force, and harvesting it into kinetic energy.
The louder people howl, the more energy the device collects.
Once the ride is complete and people are all-out of vocals, the device is removed by staff and place into an on-site mobile charging point where park-goers can plug in and restore battery life.
But here’s what we really want to know, is the ride terrifying enough to induce wails of fear?
Well, according to the ride designer, John Burton, it’s a “15 out of 10 on the scare factor scale” because it takes guests on a dark, zombie-filled journey through creepy AF environments inspired by the popular show.
“Our new and exclusive immersive experience is hands down one of the most thrilling, terrifying and now intelligent on offer in the UK.”
John Burton, Thorpe Park
“Being chased by walkers is guaranteed to be quite literally spine-chilling.”
So, scream all you like, it’s worth it.
