 We are either really big Game of Thrones fans or seriously keen to drink a cold glass of Guinness in its homeland, because our visitor numbers to Ireland just keep growing.

According to new figures from Ireland’s Central Statistics Office (CSO), the Republic of Ireland welcomed a 14 percent increase in overseas visitor between February and April this year.

This mean, 212,000 additional visitors over the same three-month period last year.

During the same period, Aussie and Kiwis visitors jumped 30 percent, achieving a new record of growth from the two markets.

Additionally the average length of stay increased to reach around 13 nights.

Tourism Ireland’s Manager Australia & New Zealand, Diane Butler said the figures represented a ‘stunning start to the year’ and a result of ongoing promotions.

“Promoting the Wild Atlantic Way and the Causeway Coastal Route continues to be a major focus for Tourism Ireland; we are also showcasing the new ‘Ireland’s Ancient East’ and ‘Dublin Discovery Trail’.”

“Sporting events, such as The Irish Open at Royal County Down will also be a boost interest in Ireland, as will the RWC2015, being held in England and Wales.”

Growth also comes after the success of HBO TV series, Game of Thrones, which features Ireland as a regular backdrop.

Tapping into the popularity of the show, Tourism Ireland launched a ‘Fantastical Game of Thrones‘ promotion, which saw props such as drangon eggs and three-eyed ravens appearing in surprise locations around Belfast and Northern Ireland. Read on
