Cold snap brings ski to the forefront for Aussie snow bunnies

The calendar may be telling you it's still only Autumn (one day left!) but those chilly winds and frosty mornings say the Australian Winter arrived a little early this year.

Or as Sansa Stark would say…

And a lot of Aussies are responding much in the same way as Jon Snow did, with pure happiness…

Because a) we totally needed a break after that overly sweaty summer.

And b) because the cold means snowy vacay!

The cold has inspired some Australians to book for the 2018 snow season overseas to places such as California, for the ultimate ski safari and Japan, to take advantage of Japan Airlines’ discounted flights, while others are looking a little closer to home for 2017.

Here’s a little good news for the ones thinking of travelling locally, a cold front swept through Thredbo overnight dropping 20cm’s of fresh snow across the mountain and dusting 5cm’s in the village.

Very cold temperatures also saw snowmaking fire up complementing the natural falls, with snow made around the Cruiser and High Noon areas.  The outlook is for very cold temperatures right throughout the week so the mountain team anticipate a solid week of snowmaking. With the ski season kicking off June 10, snow lovers across the country are getting excited.

To welcome winter and the pre-season snowfalls, Thredbo today announced a 4 Day Flexi Pass Sale, giving skiers and boarders the freedom and flexibility to choose any four days of the season to hit the slopes and save over $150. The pass is $349 for adults, a saving of $151, with under 18’s pass $209, a saving of $75. Offer ends midnight Friday.

This will just be the start of what promises to be the most event filled season yet, check out all the events and activities here.
