No, people have discovered another method of getting over that loser (not always, but let’s be honest almost always) ex and all requires is a suitcase, an air ticket, some friends and what may initially feel like a ‘terrible idea’.

Okay so it’s not a completely new way of getting over someone, but it is becoming an increasingly popular practise, especially among Aussies.

New research from Bookings.com found one in 10 Aussies planned their upcoming holiday after post break-up.

Of those surveyed, 67 percent said they’re taking the trip to signal a new beginning, while 47 percent described it as an emancipation for their old life.

Some 36 percent of respondents said travel was a good way to kick off being single again and those that were heading off on post break-up holidays with a group of friends said they’d keep any mutual friends of the ex are off the guest list.

Booking.com Australia spokesperson Jaime De Silva said she expects to see the trend of separation trips to pick up in 2017.

“Things like accommodation that’s big enough for the whole group to have fun, but still has room to enjoy personal space for those inevitable reflection moments.”

“A great outdoor space and pool are also an added bonus.”
