The cruise line’s first circumnavigation of South America from Australia itinerary is the highlight from Princess Cruises’ new 2016/17 program, which was unveiled at a media function in Sydney last week.

Vice President Australia and New Zealand, Stuart Allison said it was the first itinerary of its kind from Australia and had taken the better part of five years to develop.

It is designed to meet growing demand for cruise around the continent.

According to Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) statistics, in 2013 75 percent more guests cruised around South America.

Setting off on 11 January 2017, the 84-night Circle South America cruise will be held on Sea Princess and will visit 28 ports across 18 countries.

Departing Sydney, the ship will cross the Tasman to Auckland before heading to the South Pacific for calls in Tonga and Samoa.

The first taste of South America will be in Chilean-owned Easter Island where guests will see the ancient giant stone monoliths.

From there the 2,000-passenger ship will cruise to Chile, Argentina, Falkland Islands, Uruguay, Brazil, Barbados, Netherlands Antilles, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru,

The ship will then head back to Australia via French Polynesia and New Zealand.

Also featured in the program is Emerald Princess‘ first season Down Under.

Departing Southampton on 28 September 2016, the ship will sail on a Four Continents Grand Adventure from Europe to the Middle East, Asia and Australia where she will make her maiden calls to Fremantle (8 November 2017), Melbourne (13 November) and Sydney (15 November).

On sale from April 23, 2015, the 2016-17 Australia and New Zealand program offers five ships providing record capacity to travellers on cruises from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Fremantle and Auckland over the summer months.

Holidaymakers can choose from 120 cruise options with an unprecedented 112 destinations across 39 countries on offer – including 23 new ports from Australia.

Highlights include 14 cruises from Sydney on the 3,082-guest Emerald Princess and 2,000-guest Dawn Princess, including the cruise line’s first ever 11-night cruise around New Zealand’s South Island.

There’s also a 42-night Dawn Princess journey to Asia sailing from Sydney and Brisbane to visit China and Japan.
