NYC & Company, NYC’s destination marketing organisation, applauds Lonely Planet travel publisher for recognising the borough of Queens as the United States’ number one destination for 2015.
Queens’ growing domestic and international status as a must-visit destination is just one of the results of NYC & Company’s commitment to the boroughs beyond Manhattan.
“NYC & Company has always spotlighted Queens for its cultural and ethnic diversity, its international cuisine, and its exciting and unparalleled burgeoning arts and entertainment scenes.”
Fred Dixon, NYC & Company president
NYC & Company promotes New York City’s five boroughs through a variety of marketing programs, including Neighborhood x Neighborhood, in which different neighborhoods are spotlighted each month.
Since its inception in March 2013, the program has featured Queens neighborhoods Corona, Forest Hills and Jackson Heights; Long Island City; Flushing; Jamaica Bay and Rockaway Beach; and Astoria.
In October 2014, NYC & Company launched a See Your City campaign, encouraging New Yorkers to explore the five boroughs.
The first phase of the program showcases Jackson Heights and Long Island City. Additional promotion in 2014 included a celebration of the anniversaries of the 1939 and 1964 World’s Fairs; press and trade familiarisation tours; MICE activities; and more.
Between 2012 and 2013, Queens experienced an approximately 12 percent increase in visitors, from 11 million to 12.5 million.
