1. Contiki has just made a whole heap of changes & they’re totally MUNCH

New food, new trips, new destinations AND a new website – Contiki has just rolled out a whole heap of changes and they’re ‘so MUNCH’.

The tour operator unveiled a whole lot of changes last night at its third annual Contiki Legends party held at Carriageworks in Sydney.

Managing Director, Katrina Barry, told attendees that the new experiences and offerings were in line with the wants and travel desires of today’s youth.

2. Pass go now! There’s a real-life Monopoly Hotel & it’s in Australia

There’s no shortage of wacky accommodation concepts around the world, and it’s no competition but would you rather sleep at a Dog Park Inn or have Mr Monopoly as your concierge for a night?

We all know the answer to that one, and it’s something along the lines of: hey doggy hotel, how about you do not pass go and do not collect $200.

3. “Uh, we’ve flown in the wrong direction’

“Good morning, hope you’re enjoying your flight from Sydney to Malaysia. Unfortunately we’ve made a slight navigational error and are actually in Melbourne.”

Okay so maybe that’s not exactly how an AirAsia X pilot broke the news to his passengers, but that’s part of how we picture the confession and the cabin’s reaction.

It is however, true that the flight from Sydney to Malaysia ended up in Melbourne instead of Malaysia, when the pilot entered the wrong coordinates into the plane’s navigation system.

4. Qantas just gave Aussies more choice when flying to India

Qantas has expanded its code share arrangement with Jet Airways, to give Aussies more choice when it comes to flying into India as well as extra opportunities to earn Qantas Points.

Kicking off next month (and subject to regulatory approval of course), the Flying Kangaroo will add its code to Jet Airways flights between Singapore and Chennai, Hong Kong and New Delhi.

The expanded arrangement will also allow Qantas passengers to fly with the QF code on Jet Airways flights from Bangkok and New Delhi and Bangkok and Mumbai.

5. Air New Zealand sends award-winning aircraft to the Cook Islands

Travellers can expect award-winning interior products when they fly to the Cook Islands now that Air New Zealand has announced it will operate the Boeing 777-200 aircraft on flights from Sydney to Rarotonga.

Commencing 31 March 2017, the aircraft will add some 30 percent more capacity on the route, while also introducing new classes such as the Economy Skycouch and the airline’s award wining lie-flat Business Premier beds.

According to Cook Islands Tourism Corporation Chief Executive, Halatoa Fua, the 777-200 will help meet demand for flights between the two destinations, which is up 16 percent this year compared to last year.

 

6. APT’s Kimberley Wilderness Adventures debuts new 2017 Program

Travellers looking to explore Australia’s Kimberley region can choose from 15 itineraries in APT’s new Kimberley Wilderness Adventures 2017 program.

Unveiled this week, it features eight 4WD Adventures, four Cruise Adventures and three Land & Cruise Adventures including the company’s most popular itinerary, the 15-day Kimberley Complete taking in Broome,the Bungle Bungle Range, Kununurra, Ord River and El Questro Wilderness Park.

It also features APT Signature Experiences such as a helicopter ride over Mitchell Falls, exclusive access to Zebedee Springs at El Questro and sunset drinks overlooking the Bungle Bungle Range.

7. Rezdy escapes to the 1900s

Rezdy invited KarryOn to an afternoon of investigation, puzzle solving and a whole lot of fun at ‘Escape Hunt’ in Sydney.

The one-hour Sherlock Holmes-type investigation provided an opportunity to get to know Rezdy, which continues to build on its presence in Australia, and some of the unique tours and experiences available to Agents through the platform.
