While the world patiently waits for this year’s Oscars, Australia’s tourism industry gathered for its own highly revered awards night late last week.

While the world patiently waits for this year’s Oscars, Australia’s tourism industry gathered for its own highly revered awards night late last week.

 

Hundreds of industry professionals slipped into their Sunday best and gathered at the Hilton in Darwin for the annual Australian Tourism Awards where they found out who the best of the best were in 2016.

Highlights from the evening included finding out who would take home the Australian Tourism Legend awards… Harvey Lister.

The AEG Ogden Chairman and Chief Executive won the title for his contributions to the industry as well as his success in building the venue management business.

Voyages Ayers Rock Resort’s entered the Hall of Fame after winning the ‘Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tourism’ award for the third consecutive year.

The company’s Chief Executive, Andrew Williams, said the business is “extremely gratified” by the win and believes success comes from the dedication “to providing guests with authentic Indigenous experiences and creating opportunities for Indigenous Australians through cultural tourism”.

Tasmania came out shining with its Three Capes Track winning Gold for ‘Best New Business’ AND the Tasmanian Walking Company winning in the Ecotourism category, while Bendigo was all smiles after winning gold and bronze in two categories.
