Qantas or Virgin - which is more punctual?

The two airlines have been going neck-to-neck in domestic punctuality for some time, with Qantas being the most on-time, then Virgin and then Qantas… you get the picture.

Last we heard, Virgin was the most punctual domestic airline, sitting ahead of it major competitor.

But according to the latest data collected by the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE), Qantas pushed ahead in May to take out the number one spot, again.

During the month, around 89.6 percent of Qantas’ domestic flights arrived on-time. This was a little ahead of Virgin’s 88.8 percent.

The most punctual domestic airline is…

Qantas’ low-cost subsidiary, Jetstar, was the third most prompt carrier for the month at 84.3 percent, followed by Virgin’s budget airline, Tigerair at 82.2 percent.

In the regional category, Regional Express recorded 86 percent of on-time arrivals, followed by QantasLink with 85.1 percent and Virgin Australian Regional Airlines with 83.4 percent.

In addition to leading the on-time arrival field, the Qantas network had the most punctual departures of 90.8 percent, followed by Virgin Australia – 90.3 percent; Tigerair – 84.6 percent; and Jetstar 84 percent.

Qantas restarted flights between Perth and Singapore last month.

In other Qantas news, the Flying Kangaroo restarted its Perth to Singapore services last month.

The flights come a little over a year since deciding to terminate the service.

According to the carrier, there was strong demand to restart flights on the route.
